Trends come and go. The velour tracksuits that were once on almost every fashion girl’s wish list are now somewhat on everyone’s hand-me-down’s list. Thus, what once was ‘In’ can now be ‘Out’. But style, now that never goes out of fashion. Audrey Hepburn’s ‘Little Black Dress’, Marilyn Monroe’s sultry red lips and Beyonce’s diva locks are style staples that girls dream of recreating. So if you love digging into the past to discover great vintage fashion pieces you’ll be delighted to know that Melbourne, Australia’s “cultural capital”, has more than one option to go hunting for the best vintage fashion.

Circa Vintage– Nicole Jenkins, owner of Circa Vintage has an underlying passion for all things vintage. She says that this is a result of being born to parents who had an appreciation of old things so much that they drove a 1928 Studebaker and a ’50s Ford Prefect. This girl loves vintage so much that she has even written a book about it titled, “Style is Eternal”. And get this, the gorgeous pieces you get here like the 30’s floral cotton voile tea gown and the 60’s diamanté evening gown; are all part of a collection that includes almost two hundred years of fashion! Quite a collection right? So when you’re hunting for timeless pieces and want to rest your tired feet, you’ll be glad to know that there’s a luxury hotel accommodation Melbourne CBD in close proximity to the boutique. The much popular Oaks on Lonsdale is not only just 14 minutes away from Circa Vintage but also minutes away from local hangouts spots like the Cafe On Bourke and, of course, the beach.

Well, when you walk into Clara Fox you’ll get a flashback into those kiddy times as Di, the owner, got inspiration from seeing beautiful 1930’s and 1940’s day dresses in her aunt’s closet. Now, her little gem of a boutique specialises in 1950’s fashion as well as few from the 20’s. So among the myriad of clothes, hats, jewellery and shoes, you’ll spot fluffy fur coats, glittery dresses that seem to be straight out of Great Gatsby and little oddities such as disco-era roller-skates and Victorian mourning jewellery.
