Silom – The Wall Street of Bangkok
Share with Social Media Network
Silom is considered to be Bangkok’s equivalent to the American Wall Street with sky scrapers reaching the clouds up above and name boards of all these tall buildings displaying well known financial institutions in the country. However when the sun goes down and the city lights come up the setting changes and it becomes the party centre of the city with a number of entertainment hubs in Patpong as well as some of the city’s best hotels in the locality.
The name of the road has a story to tell and in local language Silom means windmill and it is said that long time ago this area had been an empty swamp and the windmill located here had been the reason for the road to get its name. The significance of the locality is understood by the very fact that it is connected by both the city’s underground transport system as well as the sky train both of which are mass transport facilities.  What is more the area is also conveniently linked to many other important spots in the city such as Sathorn, Ploenchit, Siam, Chidlom and the riverside areas.
Amongst the many popular things to do in the locality are shopping, touring across places such as the Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute Snake Farm, Lumphini Park, Robot Building, East Asiatic Company Building, Old Customs House and such. For those who are interested in religious places, there is Sri Mariamman Hindu Temple, Wat Hua Lamphong, Assumption Cathedral, Christ Church, Wat Maha Phruettharam and also Wat Yan Nawa to visit that belong to diverse faiths. However many go there to watch the beautiful skyline that is lit up in the evenings as well.

For the traveller who likes to get a feel of this bustling city, there are many Bangkok serviced apartments to choose from. Anantara Baan Rajprasong Bangkok is where you will find an ideal serviced apartment Bangkok that is surely well appointed in one of the most esteemed localities in the metropolis. For the business traveller or the international family it is a great place to make a home away from home with all the luxuries and facilities.
