1881 Heritage, a fascinating attraction
Share with Social Media Network

Located in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, 1881 Heritage is a remarkable development which never fails to captivate the visitor. With a total area of no less than 130,000 square feet the compound now features an expansive shopping mall as well as an exhibition gallery. Formerly the building functioned as the headquarters of the Marine Police.

The edifice’s unmistakable Victorian style architecture readily demonstrates its rich colonial legacy. Since 1994 the compound has been identified as a declared monument, in recognition of its status as one of Hong Kong’s four oldest remaining government buildings.

In a dynamic and rapidly evolving modern metropolis such as Hong Kong, culturally significant old buildings are often being replaced with contemporary developments. Today only a handful of the British era colonial buildings remain, representing Hong Kong’s eventful past. 1881 Heritage is therefore both a modern shopping centre and also a valuable relic of the city’s colonial period.

1881 Heritage’s façade has been meticulously restored to create a lovely appearance; additionally history enthusiasts will be engrossed by the gas lampposts, stables, cast iron fireplaces, pigeon houses and a subterranean bomb shelter which have all been painstakingly restored and refurbished.

The immense restoration project which took six years to complete involved a team of specialists from many countries including historical building preservationists, architects, engineers, designers and landscaping experts. Wherever possible, the genuine features of the original structure were retained.

Many of the world’s best known and most prestigious brand names in watches, jewellery and fashion are represented at 1881 Heritage. These include Cartier, Alfred Dunhill, Breguet, Montblanc, Rolex, Piaget, Tiffany & Co., Van Cleef & Arpels, Lancel and Paspaley amongst others. Also to be found are the flagship outlets of Vacheron Constantin, Shanghai Tang and IWC. In addition to the boutiques shoppers may rejuvenate themselves at the several restaurants and bars which are an ideal conclusion to your shopping experience. These features make Heritage 1881 a truly unique and entrancing shopping destination which projects international luxury and local colour.
